Youth Soccer League
Led by resident volunteers, over 700 youth ages 5-15, from Oak View and surrounding neighborhoods play on 40 co-ed teams, local schools and Boys and Girls Clubs provide facilities for practices and games.
Collaboration with Huntington Beach Police Department to improve relations and communications between police and residents. Neighborhood has been organized into quadrants with specific police officers assigned to develop deeper trust and understanding of community safety issues.
Success Story: Oscar Rodriguez
Oscar currently attends CSULB. In 5th grade he was a founding participant of the Oak View Youth Soccer League (OVYSL), which was created by his father and OVRP. Through positive afterschool activities such as OVYSL, Oscar was steered away from a life of gangs and criminal activity. Today, Oscar helps run the league as Chief of Operations. He also supports local youth as a teen advisor with Stepping Up, where he motivates others to choose positive activities. Oscar is actively involved in neighborhood cleanups and the community-policing program.
