Dear Friends of OVRP,

OVRP-CIELOA lot can change in 10 years.

In 2007, Jack Shaw founded the Oak View Renewal Partnership (OVRP) to spark massive change through a narrow, targeted focus. Our vision was simple: to work side by side with the people of Oak View to empower them, give them a voice, leverage their strengths, and help them realize their full potential.

And it’s through that focus on a single community that we’ve managed to narrow the cultural, social, educational, health, and economic gap between the Oak View community and the surrounding City of Huntington Beach. Oak View is now a model of Collective Impact.

In fact, in the decade that we’ve immersed ourselves in the community we’ve seen a:

  • 50% increase in students graduating from local schools;

  • 39% increase in Oak View college enrollment rates;

  • 28% reduction in childhood obesity;

  • 49% reduction in property damage crimes;

  • 13% reduction in drug crime; and a

  • 41% reduction in violent crimes overall.

But more than just statistics, after 10 years, we’ve seen this community empower itself and become engaged in a new environment of active leadership. That’s an indicator that our collective efforts have made a real difference. And with that said, we’d like to take this opportunity to shed some light on our new direction.

OVRP will be transitioning all its programs to the community and sunsetting at the end of 2017. However, our legacy, mission, vision, and unique approach to community development will live on through our economic initiative, CIELO.

OVRP proved that collective impact and community development is possible. Through CIELO, we’ll be able to reach and empower more communities and individuals through the same transformative programs we pioneered in Oak View. It’s an exciting time, and we’d like to invite you to join us as we embrace this new direction.

Our progress in Oak View would not have been possible without the support, love, and commitment of our OVRP stakeholders. We will be forever grateful to the Oak View residents who allowed us to work alongside them and create lasting change.

And so, we would like to thank each and every one of you for sharing our vision of collaboration and empowerment.

It’s been a rewarding decade; here’s to the next 10 years of progress!

Thank you all,
Vivian Pham,
OVRP Board of Directors

Yesenia Velez Ochoa,
Executive Director
